Up to 472 HP: Ford Performance Unveils Power Packs for 2015–2017 Mustang GT

With 435 horsepower onboard, Ford Mustang GT is not exactly a blubbering puddle of automotive grief. It is a fast, coupe or convertible with a sweet sounding V-8 that, in our testing, will be hitting 60 mph in as little as 4.3 seconds. That's all fine and good, but for those who should have more power and faster acceleration, Ford Performance has released a trio of "power packs" to kick the Mustang GT power up a notch (or three ). 2015-2017 Ford Mustang GT The first power pack kit, Power Pack 1, will be available next month and has a high flow air filter and a new engine calibration good for an extra 13 horsepower and 16 MW ft of torque. Power Pack 1 not only moves the needle peaks GT power but also reshapes the torque curve, such that at 1500 rpm, 5.0-liter V-8 Mustang gains 40 lb-ft over the stock. Power Pack 2 is wider, replacing the GT's air-intake assembly for cold-air intake and 87-mm throttle body from the Mustang Shelby GT350 and a more aggressive engine calibration adds 21 horsepower and 24 MW ft of torque over the baseline Mustang GT. For those keeping score, that 456 horsepower and 424 lb-ft; Chevrolet fans for keeping the quality and hardly horsepower figure eclipses that of an off-the-shelf Camaro SS, while still falling short of the Chevy's 455 lb-ft of torque.

Maximum setting with Power Pack 3, which uses the same components and Shelby intake valve body as Power Pack 2, but features engine computer calibration bumps output by 37 ponies and 5 lb-ft to 472 power -Horse and 405 MW-ft of torque. Although horsepower number falls short of Ford Mustang Shelby GT350's 526 ponies model uses a unique 5.2-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crankshaft-Away outguns the Shelby 426 lb-ft of peak torque. Besides adding power, all three Power Pack 50 states (including CARB) emissions legal, include a no-lift shift Modeling features, and a new map for the automatic shift Mustang GTs. The software also requires a switch from regular premium gas. The really good news is that there is a Power Pack for every budget: Pack 1 was worth $ 539, Pack 2 will cost $ 949, and 3 Pack runs $ 2395.
