Fastest Ford Mustang Part 7 : 2007 Mustang GT California Special
Continuing its popular line of retreat Mustangs, Ford
greeted the 1968 California Special which was a limited edition with the help
of Shelby. The 2007 edition was updated with GT Premium California Special
Package 54C. A 300 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque standard 24-valve V8
sent CS 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds, with quarter-mile run, taking 13.8 seconds to
103 mph, according to Car & Driver. Ford continued to produce this variant
until the 2011 model.
In 2007 Ford revived the "California Special" name
from the original 1968 version and introduced a brand new GT/CS Mustang. Just
as with the original the late model GT/California Special was an appearance
package, including familiar features like body striping and side scoops.
Although not a performance package, the GT/CS was only available on the GT
Premium platform, so by default it recieved all the GT performance
enhancements.
The new GT/CS proved a popular package and was extended into
2008 and 2009. After an absense in 2010, the GT/California Special package
returned for 2011-2014. Whether it continues beyond this is probably just a
matter of popularity and sales figures.
Below is a year by year summary of the GT/CS package,
available colors and conflicting options not available. For a more detailed
list with photos see the HOW TO IDENTIFY section.
