Last year at SEMA, Chevrolet absolutely stole the show with his COPO Camaro Concept. Not to be overshadowed by their counterparts Bowtie, the guys in the Blue Oval have countered with the car you see here, the Mustang Cobra Jet Concept. Built by Ford Racing and based on the 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet, the only driver offers a couple of turbochargers connected to a 5.0-liter V8 engine with the same technology as Ford EcoBoost engines. While the current crop of Cobra Jets are pretty fast, running eight miles from the second quarter in NHRA crop, says the Ford Racing 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger used currently requires as much as 100 horsepower to operate - horsepower that is not being delivered to the rear tires of meat. Turbos, however, provide much less parasitic loss of power. Relatively small turbos - similar to those used in the Focus ST - were also used in the concept, ensuring that there would be minimal delay. Will we see a production version of the twin-turbo Mustang Cobra Jet Concept in the future? Perhaps, especially since the next generation Mustang has long been rumored to get an EcoBoost engine. Until then, check out the large number of pictures (both live and actions) of the car as well as a video of the Cobra Jet in action below.
